Flight Environments supplies acoustic insulation system for B-747.

Zutendaal, Belgium (April 3, 2002) -- Officials with Flight Environments, Inc. (FEI) today announced the installation of an acoustic insulation system that was custom designed for a Boeing 747 Jet.   The system shipped from FEI’s manufacturing facility in Paso Robles, California to Basel, Switzerland, where it is being installed. Flight Environments was awarded the contract in October by Jet Aviation, which is installing the airplane’s interior. The 747 VIP Jet, is scheduled for completion in fall of this year.

“A quiet, safe and lightweight cabin were three of the key requirements to be incorporated into our customer’s aircraft,” said Bernd Schramm, Technical Manager Special Projects at Jet Aviation Basel. “The package provided by Flight Environments is expected to meet all of those requirements and thereby contribute to the business productivity of this airplane.”

Flight Environments’ state-of-the-art acoustic insulation systems use the most advanced technologies and lightweight materials to provide maximum thermal stability and eliminate moisture absorption while drastically reducing interior cabin noise. FEI systems also improve burn-through protection while providing a toxic smoke barrier.

“Flight Environments is extremely proud and excited to have its product incorporated into this VIP Aircraft and to be a part of the Jet Aviation Completion program,” said FEI European Manager, Luc Stultjens. “It is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our capability to provide the latest technology in customized thermal and acoustic systems in a hand-in-glove relationship with Jet Aviation.”

Flight Environments’ system takes a holistic approach to reduce the noise level in each aircraft. After the system is installed between the fuselage skin and interior cabin panels, it sometimes unmasks additional noises that come to the surface at frequencies that could not be heard before. FEI engineers and acousticians then work with their client’s counterparts to fine-tune the aircraft’s other non-related systems.  FEI is headquartered in Paso Robles, California and operates a European office in Belgium.

Flight Environment uses a repertoire of 85 combinations of sound-dampening materials to develop its custom-tailored sound solutions. In addition to sound reduction, Flight Environment’s materials provide a water vapor barrier and thermal insulation, helping to prolong the life of cabin materials while maintaining a comfortable cabin temperature. FEI systems and materials meet or exceed the Federal Aviation Association’s (FAA) proposed “Improved Flammability Standards” and comply with AD-2000-11-02 and FAA’s newest NPRM.
