Flight Environments Excels on Greenpoint 747

(Paso Robles, CA) – Flight Environments, Inc. has delivered and flight tested the first of a multi-order package of thermal and acoustic upgrade systems for Boeing 747’s for Greenpoint Technologies, Inc.

The system made its maiden trip on March 17th, 2005.  On board was John Alberti, President of JR Engineering, an independent acoustical firm hired to survey the aircraft after completion.  "In my 39 years in the aircraft acoustics business I have not encountered such low cabin noise levels on such a large aircraft at such high air speed", said Alberti.

"A few business jet manufacturers are justly proud of 3-band cabin Speech Interference Levels (SIL) in the upper 40's, measured while flying high and slow. Four-band Preferred Speech Interference Levels (PSIL) in the 40's and 3-band SIL's in the low to mid 40's in an airplane this size, flying lower and faster, is a remarkable feat and a step forward in the state of the art.  I am proud to have been a part of this achievement."

The challenging thresholds for the system required the combined efforts of both companies’ engineering and certification experts.  The team assembled by Greenpoint included in-house acoustic, interior design, engineering, and certification experts working hand-in-hand with Flight Environments personnel.

“Once we were airborne, I knew something special had been accomplished,” said Eamon Halpin, President of Flight Environments.  “To reach the sound levels we achieved with zero weight delta requires, above all, an absolute commitment to cooperation from everyone involved in the project.  That commitment was apparent from the start with Greenpoint, and the result is one of our quietest aircraft to date.  We’re delighted with the aircraft, and we look forward to continued success on the remaining systems.”

The complete system was delivered on time and on budget.

Greenpoint Technologies, Inc. is an aviation industry leader in providing interior systems for VIP, corporate, government, and commercial aircraft.  Founded in 1988, Greenpoint is headquartered in Kirkland, WA.

Flight Environments, the leading supplier of thermal and acoustic insulation systems for private and corporately configured aircraft, uses a repertoire of 85 combinations of sound-dampening materials to develop its custom-tailored sound solutions. In addition to sound reduction, Flight Environments’ materials provide a water vapor barrier and thermal insulation, helping to prolong the life of cabin materials while maintaining a comfortable cabin temperature. FEI systems and materials meet or exceed the Federal Aviation Association’s (FAA) recently adopted “Improved Flammability Standards” and comply with CFR 25.856 (a) and (b).
