What does it do?
Acoustically, the blanket typically provides a 3-4 dBA reduction in cabin noise in the front seats by absorbing engine and exhaust noise. As it covers the entire firewall, the blanket inhibits structural firewall vibration which is another prominent source of cabin noise! The engine side of the firewall is the best place to stop incoming noise. We manufacture the only product that is intended expressly for use in this area.

The Acoustic Blanket was also designed to be an excellent thermal barrier as it was initially designed as a standalone firewall. Constructed entirely of inorganic, noncombustible fibers and polymers, the blanket will not burn, and blocks virtually all of the heat produced by engine exhaust and fire. After 15 minutes of direct 2000° flame (at greater than 9BTU/in²/hr), the backside of the blanket registered a cool 185°, sustaining only minor damage.

Did we mention that the blanket is only 3/8" thick? That a typical installation weighs only 8-9 lbs, and can be done in a day!

The Blanket is available as a do-it-yourself kit, complete with detailed instructions, mounting and repair materials. Flight Environments can also manufacture a custom blanket to your specifications. The material is flexible and easy to handle and install, even in remote, hard-to-reach areas.

Where does it go?
You can install the Blanket wherever heat or noise is a problem. Engine compartments are a prime choice as is high-noise engine pylon points in rear-engine jets. We've installed the blanket in a variety of small single- and twin-engine aircraft engine compartments, as well as in the engine pylon section of corporate jets. Where performance is a must and space is at a minimum, the Acoustic Blanket will excel.
