Due
to their flight altitude and duration, executive-class aircraft,
such as corporate jets, tend to develop extremely cold floors in
certain areas. In response to this problem, Flight Environments
has developed a high-performance thermal blanket that acts as a
barrier between the aircraft floor and the carpet padding. The blanket
employs multiple thermally reflective barriers, each separated by
extremely efficient fibrous insulation felts, to provide unparalleled
insulating character for its very low profile.
The
MLI Blanket is less than 0.2" thick, and can be installed without
modifying any surrounding systems, equipment, or structures, including
seat tracking mechanisms, interior doors, and drawers. Typical carpet
foam padding can then be reduced in thickness to accommodate the
pad installation without affecting the fit of the carpets. To do
so, Flight Environments supplies replacement foam in 1/4", 3/8",
and 1/2" thickness.
Tests
performed after cold-soak and at altitudes exceeding 41,000 MSL
(FL 410) exhibit the blanket's effectiveness. The Flight Environments,
MLI Blanket will maintain a minimum 42?F temperature differential
(i.e., between the top of the floor and the top of the pad) for
upwards of five hours at altitude, after cold soak. The pad installation
also reduces low-frequency audible noise and vibration through the
floor.
